I know, I know, to some this may not matter. Many members and readers here are still trying to figure the whole thing out. Barbie, who was at the most part the lead of the industry up and left.
There have been several posts about this over the last few days. There has recently been a major issue with sites changing hands on a constant basis with little or no notice. My best suggestion to all is not to sell sites period. It becomes confusing for members. It can also leave members as well as owners in a lurch if the full amount owed on a site has not been disclosed to the new owner. Not to mention the privacy issue.
So lets first cover what NOT to do-
-Sell the site with little or no notice.
-Change the DNS or domain in a short amount of time, as their 48-72 hour time frame can be inaccurate & does not allow members that amount of time needed.
-Transfer private members information to a new owner immediately (if at all).
-Identification & Tax documents as well as telephone numbers should never be given to a new owner. It is up to the member if they feel that the new owner should have this information & to provide them with it after the sale. (For the record I didn’t do this)
There are some variations in the recent conversations so here’s what we have so far (I will update as more info is discussed)
Option 1- Site tranfer with members accounts
-Give at least a 2 week notice to all members.
Or if your site has an activity requirement ie- login every 30 days give a 30 day notice.
This means via inbox, news page, email, forum posts, posting on the main page of the site, & the registration page that a sale is going to take place & that members that wish to be paid & have their accounts removed may do so.
-Lower the minimum payout so all members can be paid before the site is transferred.
-Refund the remaing advertising.
Option 2- Site transfer with no members accounts
-Give at least a 2 week notice to all members.

-Remove all members & their information before the site is transferred.
Closing a site-

Such as-
*** will never be sold to a new owner. If *** were ever to close a 30 day notice would be sent out via email (to subscribed members), an inbox message, a forum post, as well as being posted on the main page of the site. All outstanding ads will be refunded for the amount remaining. The minimum cashout amount would be lowered to .01 (1 cent) so all members may request their full account balance for payment.

To protect your privacy if this site is ever sold, a notice would be sent out via email (to subscribed members), an inbox message, a forum post, as well as being posted on the main page of the site (X amount of time) prior to the sale. All outstanding ads will be refunded for the amount remaining. The minimum cashout amount would be lowered to .01 (1 cent) so all members may request their full account balance for payment.
Additionally, your information will not be moved with the site so your information will remain with the original owner at all times.

**In addition, you may want to list the specific information that would be transfered to a new owner if a sale were to take place, as well as what would happen to members balances, upgrades, & advertising. The more information the better!
Here’s what I have-Privacy Policy – Ownership
DealBarbiePays will never be sold to a new owner. If DealBarbiePays were ever to close a 30 day notice would be sent out via email (to subscribed members), an inbox message, a forum post, as well as being posted on the main page of the site. All outstanding ads will be refunded for the amount remaining. The minimum cashout amount would be lowered to .01 (1 cent) so all members may request their full account balance for payment. However, the $5 signup bonus may only be cashed out in withdrawals of $20 or more.
As when I give the $5 signup bonus it is to be used towards their first $20 cashout.
So I’m not sure if the way I worded it is clear enough or not?
I mean lets say they have $6.50 in their account, $5 of which is the signup bonus. They would then be able to either cash out the $1.50 (with the min. lowered) or reach $20 & cashout the full amount.
